Sources report that the Asian naphtha markets saw an
increase in activity on April 25. Two purchase tenders were issued and one was
concluded. The
market participants were pessimistic about the naphtha markets in the near
future, as there was no sign of improvement for downstream demand. "The fundamentally, the downstream demand is very poor. "Chinese automotive and housing sectors could
potentially help stimulate downstream demand, though chances are extremely
slim", an end-user stated. The
derivatives market reflected a weaker sentiment as the backwardation decreased
in midmorning trading on April 25. Brokers
set the front-month swap spread for Japan's May-June naphtha at $5-6/mt. This
