Xylenes in Europe: Lowered offers amid low demand / Unchanged interest of blenders / PTA producers prefer MX over PX

In the week ending June 14, the European xylenes market saw lower offers amid weak demand. The overall demand for mixedxylenes was largely stable over the past week, and market sources indicated that interest from blenders had not changed despite the fact that June is typically a month with higher gasoline blending demand. A trader stated that "blending demand is low." If it doesn't pick up in the next two week, there won't be a blending season. As a result of higher freight costs from Asia, European PTA supply was said to be tightening. The European paraxylene market was weak, as despite the tightness of the downstream PTA market PTA producers were heard preferring MX. A producer stated that "less PTA/PET comes from Asia because of higher freight rates." MX...
