WCSA: Prices of homopolymers drop in line with the trade / Homopolymer Price Drop $45/mt in a Week / Mixed views on container availability from Asia

On July 31, spot polypropylene homopolymer was priced at $1.155/mt CFR West Coast South America, $45 less than the previous week. Spot copolymer grade was priced at $1.200/mt down $30 from the previous week. One trade was reported for China origin homopolymer at $1,155/mt for delivery to Peru in mid-September. Sources in Peru, Chile and Colombia, Asia, the US, and even the US all agreed that the prices were similar to those reported by the Peruvian trader. According to a Chilean supplier, PP prices have dropped due to falling freight rates. These rates were as low as $4000/FEU. The supplier stated that "apparently, our dam which protected us against Chinese prices is being damaged."
