WCSA: Homopolymer remains steady while copolymer falls amid weak demand / Copolymer prices $15/mt lower / Asian freights decline slightly

The spot polypropylene CFR price in WCSA was assessed as stable to lower in the week ending Sept. 4. This is due to a slight change in the freight rate coming from Asia. Spot homopolymer prices were $1,165/mt for the week. This was stable, but below the most competitive bid of $1,175/mt. They also remained within the range of $1,140 to $1200/mt. A US trader stated that although PP prices were slightly higher, the increased freight costs did not seem to have a significant impact on the market. Sources attributed the lower impact to the abundance of PP in Asia and the weak demand on Latin American markets. According to a Peruvian source, Europe may import additional material after Braskem Schkopau declared force majeure on its PP site in August....
