AA cargoes of China origin face competition from FOB Unv1 cargoes / India's VAM market is largely muted despite a rise in prices

Market sources reported that acetic acid prices were lower in China in the week ending May 23, due to higher operating rates after some plants reopened. East China's domestic prices were Yuan 50/mt, or $6.94/mt, lower than the previous week. The price range was Yuan 3,030-3200/mt. Chinese-origin cargoes faced competition, however, from Unv1 acetic acids that were offered to India for $350-$360/mt FBO Unv1, whereas Chinese-origin products were offered at $370/mt FBO. FOB China AA was down $5/mt from the previous week, at $365/mt. India's acetic-acid market was rangebound with an overall stronger tone. Participants said that the market improved due to the reduction of panic sales at ports in recent weeks, due to lack of storage.
