Trade sources reported May 18 that the
Asian acetic market in China was characterized by a tight supply as producers
stocked up on material to prepare for scheduled maintenance in June. On May 18, FOB China
cargoes offered were $410-$430/mt compared to $390-$410/mt the week prior. A distressed cargo was offered at $435/mt CFR India, but
this offer was not taken into consideration in the 18th of May. Sources said that fundamentals on the Asian vinyl monomer market
continued to deteriorate due to sluggish consumer demand downstream and a weak
macroeconomic outlook. In the week ending
May 18, a 2,000-mt distressed cargo of Chinese origin traded at $810/mt CIF
India. Other sources reported that
Chinese-origin vam was being offered at $800/mt FOM...
