Healthy production rates in China weigh down on AA prices / VAM market faces sluggish demand for adhesives and coatings

The fundamentals of the Asian acetic and vinyl acetate markets were mostly unchanged on Nov. 7. Healthy production rates are weighing down Chinese AA values, while weak downstream demand is putting pressure on Chinese VAM prices. FOB China AA was unchanged for the week, at $318/mt. CFR China VAM was stable over the period, at $755/mt. According to market sources, China's AA production capacity will reach 800,000 mt/year by the end 2024, and 1.5 million mt/year by mid-2025. At a major conference held in Singapore, some AA producers were busy negotiating methanol term contracts. Fundamentals on the Asian VAM market have been bearish.
