In spite of thin trading, Asian acetic acid
prices and vinyl acetate monomer values remained relatively stable in the week
ending February 23. China's slow domestic demand for
acetic acid led to an increase in inventory to 200,000 mt. Lower FOB
China prices led to selling pressure. India received offers at $460-480/mt CFR
South Asia February 23. The fundamentals of the Asian vinyl
monomer market were, however, mixed. According to
a market source, China has upsides. A Chinese VAM producer is planning to
upgrade its refinery equipment in order to use its carbide-based VAM for
ethylene vinylcetate production. He said that March is tight because
there is less marketable volume. VAM demand in Southeast Asia was low. Sources said
