US polystyrene was higher during the week ending June 18. This was due to an increase in benzene upstream prices. Spot export general purpose polystyrene prices were $1,803/mt FAS Houston. High impact PS prices were $1,963/mt FAS Houston. Both are up $27/mt since June 12. The price increase was attributed to higher feedstock benzene prices, which increased 12 cents between June 12 and June 17 amid rising crude oil futures. A market source stated that demand for polystyrene remains "so low" right now despite the rise in the price.
