US polystyrene prices fell in the week ending July 31 due to a combination of low domestic demand, and recent drops in benzene. A source stated that demand has been slow this month, but added that more inquiries are coming in. Another source confirmed the concerns over low domestic demand, and stated that recent drops in benzene price continue to worry the market. According to market sources, supply was tight. Some facilities were gradually restarting production. The second source stated that while this hasn't yet had a significant impact on pricing, there may be an allocation for August.
