USPS: Prices match benzene's muted market / Export prices remain stable, but domestic prices are lower / Market activity tepid ahead of US Holiday

US polystyrene had mixed movement in the week ending July 3, amid stable or lower upstream benzene price and muted market activity before the extended Independence Day Holiday. Spot export prices were stable on the past week. This was due to the steady spot benzene pricing for the week ending July 2. Domestic GPPS and HIPS prices were also steady, but were 1.3 cents lower. These prices are in line with the benzene July contract price, which is 13.5 cents less than the June contract. Import prices were also different. Import prices for expandable polystyrene of general grade were $10 higher than the previous week, while import prices for fire retardant grades dropped $10.
