USHDPE: Variable fundamentals lead to mixed FAS Houston movements / Buyers are waiting for lower prices, as inventories support short-term activity / Global outlets, apart from Latin America, show little appetite

On Aug. 14, spot export prices for high density polyethylene were $22/mt lower than the previous week's levels. Supply-side dynamics varied between grades, while demand was consistently sluggish. Market feedback indicated that rail car values were spread out over the course of the week. A discrepancy was observed between desired buying levels and prices offered by suppliers. Bids for blowmolding HDPE were 44-45 cents per lb, while producer offers ranged from 45.5-47cents per lb. A value of up to 48-49 cents/lb was reported, but feedback on availability was mixed. The supply conditions are expected continue to improve through the month.
