USGC Aromatics: Prices plunge on week alongside weak energy markets / Canada's rail network shuts down due to strike / Asian PX prices hit lowest levels since December 2022

US Gulf xylene and toluene prices plunged in the week ended Aug. 23 amid weakness in energy markets early in the week. Nitration-grade toluene, commercial-grade toluene and mixed xylenes prices moved 9 cents down on the week amid limited spot market activity in the US Gulf Coast. US Customs data showed that no MX or toluene cargoes arrived in the USGC in the week ended Aug. 22. NYMEX September RBOB futures declined 10.52 cents to 220.50 cents/gal in the first three days of the week, and partially recovered closing the week at 228.51 cents/gal. Meanwhile, paraxylene prices mostly declined in the week, decreasing a total $30.33/mt, or 2.97%, in the period. USGC PX prices followed the direction of the CFR Taiwan/China paraxylene marker, which was pressured by weakness in crude...
