The price of recycled polyethylene Terephthalate in the Midwest and Southeast increased by 0.5 cents/lb over the past week due to strong seasonal demand. A recycler stated that the demand for domestic clear pellets and flakes is increasing every month. The increased ocean freight rate has had a significant effect on import prices, leading buyers to switch over to domestic materials. According to sources on the market, plants in the Midwest and Southeast operate at high rates. The higher price of recycled PET makes it difficult for recyclers compete with virgin resin.
