US PS: Local prices drop, import prices rise / Benzene feedstock prices fall in the U.S. and abroad / Import EPS prices rise $23/mt in a week

In the US polystyrene industry, there were mixed results in the week ending on of the FOB Asia general-grade EPS assessment, and the September 4. Both domestic and export prices fell on the week due to a significant fall in benzene, while imports rose because of Asian movements. Spot export general purpose polystyrene was assessed at $1.703/mt FAS Houston while spot export high impact PS was assessed at $1.863/mt FAS Houston. Both prices were down $44 from the previous week due to the 21 cents/gal drop in spot DDP benzene between August 28 and September 3. The domestic GPPS and high impact PS prices were 106 cents/lb and 116c/lb respectively. Both are down by 2 cents per week.
