US PET Spot Prices: Contract prices down on the week / PTA contract lower than the previous month / Fundamentals of the Spot Market remain unchanged

US domestic polyethylene-terephthalate contracts remained unchanged in the week ending Sept. 4 amid lower feedstock costs. Purified terephthalic acids contracts for July were $1,434.97/mt (65.09% cents/lb), a drop of $1.77 (0.08%) on the month. This is based on an agreement heard and confirmed at this level. The fundamentals of the spot import PET market remained stable during the week despite lower ocean freight rates. Data showed that high ocean freight rates are a problem for participants in the spot market since the start of 2024. Container freight rates from Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia up to the US West Coast have reached their highest level since mid-2022.
