US Pet: Spot Market awaits seasonal demand / Spot and contract prices remain unchanged this week / July PTA drops $1.77/mt from the previous month

Prices of US polyethylene Terephthalate remained stable in the week ending July 30, despite a seasonal softening. The primary market for PET in North America is beverage bottles. However, sources report a flat to thin market due to high spot prices. The prices for import materials were unchanged over the past week. Container freight rates from Southeast Asia were $6,500/FEU, down $500/FEU since July 24, despite the fact that rates have been dropping since early in July. The rates from Northeast Asia to US West Coast remained stable at $6,400/FEU compared to July 24. Purified terephthalic acids for July were priced at $1,434.97/mt, or 65.09 cents/lb, down $1.77 (0.08cents) from the previous month. This was based on an agreement heard and confirmed at this level.
