A rise in the demand for spot material led to a 3.59-cent increase on the day, and a 29.17-cent gain on the week ending Sept. 20, as the outright US MTBE prices rose. During the Market on Close assessment for September 25-29 loading, a bid that attracted interest in selling at October RBOB plus 59.50 cents/gal was observed rising. The MTBE differential jumped 5.95 cents in a single day, reaching its highest level for seven months. The market anticipated that spot purchasing interest would increase due to a tightening supply in the area. TPC Group's MTBE plants were reported to begin a 45-day turnaround process on September 14.
