US LLDPE: Prices unchanged as customers remain on the sidelines / Producers maintain prices while customers wait for declines to occur: Sources / Rail Car Indications of Value Heard From 46-48 Cents/lb Between July 25 and 31

Prices for low density polyethylene at the spot export market remained unchanged from a week earlier, July 31. Demand was reportedly weak and supply is expected to increase in August. During the week, indications of general purpose LDPE rail cars' value ranged from 46 to 48 cents/lb. In comparison, the previous week's indications were heard repeatedly at 47 cents/lb or even as high as 48. Data shows that the week ending July 31 marks the first time since early July that rail car values have been heard below 47 cents/lb. Sources said that the overall purchasing power for US-origin PE has declined as demand in major global export markets like Latin America is weakening. Customers are also becoming more saturated.
