US LDPE : FAS Houston prices fall on lower new-month deals / Buying appetite is still weak at the beginning of September / Discussions on domestic CP for August

Prices for low density polyethylene on an FAS Houston base fell by $11/mt in the week ending September 4, as market trends on PE were inconsistent at the beginning of this month. During the first half of August 29-Sept. 4, spot export liquidity was extremely low as the market participants waited for September export notifications from producers. On August 29, a rail car price for LDPE general purpose was around 47-48 Cents/lb. By the end, traders and distributors reported that offers from suppliers had taken one of two directions. Some producers offered prices at the same level as in H2August, while others offered prices 1-2cents/lb (between $22 and $44/mt) lower than H2August levels. On Sept. 3-4, offers were in the 46-47 cents/lb price range. Market participants anticipate a price correction...
