Low density polyethylene spot export prices held steady in the week to Aug. 28 on an FAS Houston basis, as market players awaited communication about September prices and grappled with ongoing slow demand. Indications of rail-car value were heard on Aug. 26 and 27 in a 46-47 cents/lb range, unchanged from the prior week. Although supply for the grade had previously been talked tight, the situation was unclear during the week to Aug. 28, with most market participants awaiting fresh-month offers to inquire about spot purchases. Sentiment is bearish heading into September, with most preferring to wait for cheaper replacement costs on inventories, one source said.
