Sources indicate that the market for
polyethylene terephthalate stagnated in the week ending May 24, despite the
fact that there was more liquidity in South America compared to the US. Sources attributed the market stagnation to
resins from Asia, particularly South America, which were priced competitively
and encouraged buying. In the US however, sources claim that there are
no deals. One trader said, "The US really is weak." According
to sources, the lack of demand is widespread across all commodities. Sources
said that as a result of the knock-on effects, truck availability improved and
freight costs dropped by 1-2 cents/lb per month. Diesel fuel
