US spot butadiene continued to be elevated in the week ending August 30. Producers attributed this to a tighter supply caused by cracker problems and low inventories. US spot butadiene was stable at 57 cents/lb CIF USG August 30, despite the tight supply and low inventories. This assessment is in line with the indication that spot prices are above US contract price, or above 56.75cents/lb. Prices of butadiene in Asia also remained high throughout the week. One source stated that this, combined with the high cost of ocean freight, rendered imports into the US Gulf unviable.
