On May 30, the market was quiet, and Asian
ethylene prices remained steady at $820/mt CIF Northeast Asia and $870/mt CIF
Southeast Asia. Market
buyers continued to be concerned about unhealthy margins due to the poor demand
for products derived from ethylene, such as styrene. The low demand is attributed to macroeconomic factors, such
as high interest rate, volatile upstream price, and a slower-than-expected
recovery of demand from China's reopening. The gap between the buy-sell expectations of market
participants and the actual deals that were made in the week ending May 26
