Turkish polyethylene prices were low in the week ending July 3. This was due to consumers continuing to buy on a hand-to mouth basis, as there was plenty of supply. CFR Turkey's high density polyethylene film grades spot price remained unchanged at $1,030/mt. The spot demand was low as there were few inquiries from consumers. According to market sources, demand in July's first few days remained the same as in June. High interest rates were cited by the market as the main reason for this lack of interest. The interest rates in Turkey were at 50%, which encouraged market participants to leave their money in the banks and earn interest instead of taking more risky trade positions.
