Turkish Polyethylene: Stable despite limited market activity / HDPE film is stable for the week / Demand is low

Turkey's polyethylene market was stable during the week ending July 31, as demand and market activity were low. CFR Turkey's high density polyethylene film spot price remained unchanged at $1,040/mt for the week. HDPE blowmolding grades and HDPE injection grades were also stable this week. The Turkish economy continues to be characterized by difficult conditions, including high interest rates and inflation. In June, the Turkish Statistical Institute reported a 71.6% annual inflation rate. The monthly inflation rate in June was 1.64%. This is much lower than the 6.7% of January. However, the Central Bank of the Republic’s Monetary Policy Committee on July 23, decided to maintain interest rates at 50%. A trader said, "We are struggling to find demand here."
