Prices on the European ethylene market continued to fall as May began, and weak demand fundamentals persisted throughout the week ending May 3. The demand for materials continued to wane, pushing down spot prices. The contract price of European ethylene, as determined by the industry, was Eur 1,250/mt for April 30. This is Eur 10/mt less than last month. The drop in the May contract was mainly due to a fall in spot prices for the main feedstock naphtha across the entire month. The three-to-30-day free-delivered Northwest European spot price for ethylene was Eur762/mt on May 3, a decrease of Eur38.50/mt from the previous week.
