Market indicators were mostly unchanged. The Asian polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) market was stable during the week prior to April 24, despite a lack of spot trading. A trader reported that although the number of inquiries to buy PET bottle chips decreased towards late April, offer levels were still stable for Asian cargoes. High freight costs have also made it difficult to close trades. A producer reported that multiple holidays in Southeast Asia in April resulted in lower demand by domestic converters, as operations were scaled back. Plant operations resumed after the holidays. Prices and sentiment in the polyester fiber and yarn sector softened as sales volumes failed to increase despite the approaching end of the traditionally peak demand season.
