Trade activity is subdued due to freight uncertainty / China's polymer facility is still around 89%

In the week ending June 5, the Asian polyethylene market fell on the backs of weakening upstream markets, while the trade activity was subdued due to uncertainty over freight rates. Sources reported a sharp increase in freight rates over the past few weeks, which led to more difficult trade negotiations. Neither buyers nor sellers wanted to pay the additional freight costs that are unlikely to be reduced in the near future. It is hard to offer CFR or CIF now because of the volatility in freight costs, a Southeast Asia producer stated.
