Thin olefin marginal margins weigh down on the naphtha-complex / Asian steam cracker demand for Naphtha is stable in June

Market sources reported that the Asian naphtha markets saw slow trading on June 6, due to a weakening sentiment among derivatives traders amid low olefin margins. Brokers lowered the swap time spread for the Mean of Japan Naphtha July-August to $5.25/mt at midmorning Asian trading on June 6, down by 75 cents/mt compared to the previous close. The olefin margins were poor, as the CFR Northeast Asia Ethylene price spread to C+F Japan Naphtha was $197.25/mt on June 5, down by $4.75/mt compared to the previous close. The spread was below the usual breakeven of $250/mt (for integrated producers) and $300-$350/mt (for non-integrated).
