The
European benzene price slid in the week leading to May 26, as weak demand in
downstream derivative markets continued to pressure prices. Benzene for
delivery five- to 30-days forward at $956.25/mt CIF ARA on May 26, down
$21.25/mt from May 25. On a week[1]on-week
basis, prices slid $22.75/mt. Trading activity through the settlement window
for the June contract price was initially bullish, though prices fell back on
May 26 after buy interest cooled considerably. Downstream, styrene activity
remained thin with little buying interest heard in the week ending to May 26.
Downstream, the polystyrene market saw a weakening trend for demand from key
