Supply crunch worries fade / Asia ethylene-naphtha spreading lowest since Sep 2023

Asian ethylene is stable since May 17, at $855/mt CIF Northeast Asia, and $965/mt CIF Southeast Asia on May 20. Sources on the market said that supply concerns in Southeast Asia had slightly diminished after Thailand's SCG Chemicals resumed operations late last week at its Map Ta Phut Terminal. Last week, the terminal was closed due to a fire in a pygas storage tank. Participants in the market were closely monitoring the olefins operations on the site, as some of the olefins are located near the tank that caught fire. So far, there have been no major disruptions. The overall market sentiment has been seen as bearish, with supply concerns fading.
