On May 7, amid a lack of price discussions, Asian butadiene prices were assessed as stable at $1400/mt CFR China. In the past few weeks, spot demand has declined and CFR China prices have fallen to a 2-month low. Nevertheless, some market sources predict a recovery in sentiment due to a possible reduction in supply from the Americas as a result of an unplanned outage at smelters. Some steam crackers will be completing their seasonal turnarounds in Asia, according to market sources. Although it is not clear whether this will lead to an increased butadiene output, some steam crackers may use LPG in place of naphtha. This could reduce butadiene yields.
