India Styrene monomer: Premium drops to $11/mt due to weak purchasing interest / Healthy port inventories prevent buyers from buying / Ex-tank Prices Fall amid Weak Demand / Contract negotiations stall

The Indian market for styrene Monomer fell dramatically in the week ending October 18. The CFR India mark was down $51.50/mt from the previous week to $1,055.50/mt. In addition, the premium for the CFR China market dropped to $11/mt this week due to a combination of weak fundamentals and low demand. Multiple market sources reported spot offers between CFR China plus $10-$15/mt. However, interest in buying was minimal. Importer: "We are not buying any additional quantities." I doubt anyone will even buy at the [plus $10-$15/mt] level," said another source. According to sources, a rise in port inventories as well as a drop in crude prices from the previous week have impacted market fundamentals.
