Asian Styrene monomer: Prices rise amid rebound in crude prices / Upstream crude oil rises on the day to $80.56/b / SM China operating rates are up by 71.11% on the week

On Aug. 16, styrene Monomer CFR China and FOB Korean markers were $1,128/mt & $1,113/mt respectively. Both marks were down $6/mt since the previous assessments. The decline in price was due to the change of the H2 September and the H1 October backwardation structures. Laycans for September were valued at $1140/mt and were up $6/mt the same day, while laycans for October were valued at $1116/mt. Sources attributed the increase in Asian SM discussions to a rebound overnight of crude oil prices. Market participants were cautious about price stability and the sustainability at higher levels despite the high prices.
