Asian Styrene monomer: Prices drop amid low demand and decline in crude oil prices / SM Futures Fall Yuan 107/mt in Week / East China port supplies relatively stable at 38.200 mt

CFR China styrene and FOB Korean markers were $1,140/mt on August 14 and $1125/mt respectively, down $11/mt since the previous assessment. Sources attributed the decline of discussions for Asian SM to low demand and a drop in upstream prices. In the macroeconomy crude oil futures fell on Aug. 13, after the International Energy Agency lowered its short-term demand forecasts. The price then rose in the afternoon Asian trading on August 14, due to renewed optimism that US Federal Reserve will lower lending rates and boost crude demand. At the Asian close on August 14, October ICE Brent front-month futures dropped 75 cents/b, to $81.08/b. The FOB Korea market saw Benzene drop by $3.66/mt, to $1.014.67/mt.
