Asian Styrene monomer: Prices increase due to shortage / Tight supply heard in China / Tangshan Xuyang restarts 300,000 mt/year SM unit

CFR China styrene Monomer and FOB Korea Markers at $1,036/mt & $1,021/mt on Nov. 29 both up $13.50/mt since the previous assessment. Market sources attributed the increase in discussions for Asian SM to tight supply due to low inventories in China. The SM futures at the Dalian Commodity Exchange ended higher. The contract for January SM DCE EB2501 closed at Yuan 8,404/mt by 3PM Singapore time on Nov. 29. This was an increase of Yuan 96/mt. South Korea's supply is still plentiful despite limited export opportunities. I don't believe South Korean producers will be able to export SM in the remainder of this year.
