Asian Styrene monomer: Prices increase as the market returns after Lunar New Year holidays / SM futures close Yuan 35/mt higher / Asia-Europe arbitrage unattractive

On Feb. 5, the styrene Monomer CFR China and FOB Korean markers were $1,074/mt each and $1,064/mt, respectively. The market was bullish, and the domestic China market took cues from futures trading higher. As of 3:00 pm Beijing Time, the Dalian Commodities Exchange's front-month contract EB2503 styrene monmer futures contract closed Yuan 35/mt more expensive at Yuan 8,738/mt. According to a producer in Taiwan, the Middle East supply disruptions and higher European prices are driving an increase in European interest. The producer said that while inquiries have increased, the price difference is still not attractive. The M2 FOB China marker was $135/mt when the last assessment of the M2 FOB Asia marker took place on February 4, 2018.
