Asian Styrene monomer: Prices fall in line with muted activities / Market discussion remains thin / East China inventory continues its rise below historical levels

The styrene markers CFR China and FOB Korea were $1,063/mt on Jan. 27 and $1,053/mt on Jan. 28, both $3/mt lower than the previous assessment, as the market activity in Northeast Asia was expected to slow down before the holiday season. The week before the holidays saw a slowdown in market activity, as markets in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan were closed for Lunar New Year and Seollal holidays. In mainland China, the pace of activity has also slowed. China's official Purchasing managers' Index (PMI), according to data from China's National Bureau for Statistics and market sources, was 49.1, down from earlier analyst estimates of 50.1.
