Asian Styrene monomer: Prices edge up amid stronger Chinese Futures market / SM futures rise Yuan 80/mt / China SM capacity utilization rates falls to 67.7% during the week

CFR China and FOB Korean styrene Monomer Markers at $1,044.50/mt & $1,029.50/mt respectively on Oct. 18. Both up $9.50/mt since the previous assessment. Market sources attributed the higher level of Asian SM discussions to a stronger Chinese Futures market after positive economic news from China. Crude oil futures were strong during the afternoon Asian trade on October 18, following China's official data showing that gross domestic product increased by 4.6% in China's third quarter, and 4.8% for the first nine month of the year. The front-month October ICE Brent Futures remained steady at $74.46/b on Oct. 18. This was a largely stable day. The Dalian Commodity Exchange has seen a surge in discussions about SM futures.
