Styrene imports to arrive on May 10 / Benzene deal concludes at $1,175/mt during MOC

On the European Styrene Market, the lack of liquidity continued April 15, despite the tightening supply. The LyondellBasell-Covestro joint-owned Maasvlakte facility experienced an outage on March 27, and TotalEnergies’ Gonfreville plant had an outage earlier in the month. According to one source, the outages were expected to be resolved in May. According to a source, the styrene markets are backwardated due to tight supply. This is expected to ease around May 10 as imports from Asia arrive. Since April 12, no styrene deal has been heard. STR and TOTSA concluded a deal for 1,000 mt benzene priced at $1,175/mt, during the Market on Close Assessment, the third MOC transaction since the start of 2024.
