May spot methanol was 2 cents cheaper than
the previous day on 18 May due to a strong supply on the market. A source told us that the
demand for methanol is low and there's plenty on the market. The source stated that "everyone is looking for a way
to use methanol." There's no reason
for price increases. As a producer
continues to purchase material, a trade for 20,000 barrels of May methanol was
done at 86 cents/gal. The producer was
heard to have bought 100,000 barrels in May. The source claimed that "[they] overcontract on a
worldwide basis", implying they are committed to producing more methanol
then they can produce, and therefore need to supplement their production. They'll choose when to enter the spot...
