On May 3, Asian isomer grade mixed xylene fell $8/mt on a weekly basis to $974/mt at FOB Korea. It also dropped $10/mt on a weekly basis to $967/mt at CFR China. This was despite soaring upstream prices. Paraxylene-isomer-MX spreads remain a major focus for producers who have been facing low margins for several months. The spread dropped to $41.33/mt on May 2, its lowest level since November 14, 2020, when it was $37.58/mt. The spread increased slightly on May 3 to $49.67/mt, but is still well below the margin. The producer of MX, on the other hand, would be looking at high levels of isomer mx year-to date compared to naphtha. On May 2, the spread was $294.50/mt and dropped to $293.13/mt by May 3.
