- Spot discussions limited ahead of holidays- Supplies expected to tighten in May

The CFR China MEG marker was assessed down
$1/mt on the day at $502/mt April 27. Prices dropped slightly on the day as
market outlook for the downstream polyester sector remained poor. Spot trade
discussions were heard limited ahead of the Golden Week holidays in China. Buyers were also heard
uninterested in procuring local stocks despite the Yuan softening against the
US dollar as their inventories remained healthy. Looking ahead, supplies are
expected to tighten in May on plant turnarounds and as regional producers
adjust operation rates in the face of poor demand, according to some sources.
The ICE June Brent crude oil futures contract fell $2.79/b to $78.20/b at 4:30
pm Singapore time (0830 GMT) April 27.
