As supply was still limited, offers in the
Southeast Asia market for ethylene remained firm on March 2. As the supply crunch
continues, a selling indication was heard at $1.020-2.030/mt CFR Southeast
Asia. This may be partly due to high naphtha costs that have kept steam cracker
operating prices low. A buying signal was
heard at $950-970/mt CFR Northeast Asia. The
region's buyers remained cautious due to weak margins in downstream market
markets that discourage purchases. A buyer
from northeast Asia stated that ethylene demand is being restricted by weak
margins in downstream markets like styrene monomer. The benchmark C+F Japan Naphtha marker was down $3.50/mt on
