Softer benzene lowers phenol realization / Production issues affect Middle East volumes / Indian demand softens amid general elections

PHENOL Asian Phenol prices have dipped slightly in recent weeks, falling $10/mt to $910/mt CFR China on May 14. This is in line with lower prices on the East China domestic market. This week, domestic prices were around Yuan 7,775/mt or about $900/mt based on import parity. FOB China could be as low as $920/mt according to a buyer. This seemed reasonable considering that CFR Northeast Asia deals were recently done at $960/mt and 3,000 mt was due to ship out of East China in June. China's export or domestic markets did not increase as a result of recent production issues in the Middle East. South Korea and Unv1 exports were not subject to any price negotiations.
