SM Supply Tight in the Region / SM May futures increases Yuan 52/mt in one day

On April 18, the CFR China styrene and FOB Korea markers were $1,180.50/mt & $1,170.50/mt respectively, up $4.50/mt since last assessment. Sources attribute the increased discussions for Asian SM on the Chinese domestic market to tight supply. According to sources, the tight supply was due to lower inventories and a closure of an east China SM facility. However, this information could not be confirmed. Supply was tight in other parts of Asia as well, which led to high prices. In recent days some SM units stopped production, and Unv1 was lacking supply. A market source stated that overall, the supply in the region is tight.
