Asian Benzene prices lower due to disruption of downstream plants / Shenghong closes a 450,000 mt/year SM Plant in Jiangsu / South Korean exports drop in the first 20 days of February

Asian benzene fell by $4.83/mt to $914/mt FOB Korea on February 21st, amid reports of a disruption at a downstream styrene-monomer plant. The Crude Oil Futures market was rangebound. As of the Asian close, the Brent front-month futures contract rose 2 cents/b during the trading session. The mark for naphtha fell by $1.25/mt during the trading session, to $670.25/mt C+F Japan. The H2 March/April Spread continued to shrink on the FOB Korea Physical Market, and was flat during the trading session. Both the H2 April laycans and March laycans were assessed at $914/mt. A buyer in South Korea predicted that high inventories would eventually affect prices. The buyer said, "I heard everyone had [historically] large levels of inventory."
