Upstream benzene prices down $21.66/mt on day / SM Futures Down Yuan 233/mt in a Day

On June 5, styrene Monomer CFR China and FOB Korean markers were $1,151/mt apiece and $1,141/mt apiece, both down by $29/mt since the previous assessments. Market sources reported that discussions for Asian SM on Chinese domestic markets had fallen due to the recent weakness of global benzene, as well as poor demand in downstream markets. "SM futures fell below [Yuan] 9400 today. Benzene is weak at the moment." A market source confirmed that SM downstream markets were also experiencing poor demand. The macroeconomy was rangebound as crude oil futures traded in the afternoon Asian trade on June 5, despite strong data on service activity from China.
