Selling interest in the rear-end laycan continues / NYMEX June RBOB is up 2.46 cents/gal for the day

Despite strong demand for the back-end laycan, MTBE prices rose 0.69 cent/gal or $2.45/mt on the day. The most competitive bid was seen to decrease from May RBOB + 7.7 cents/gal down to May RBOB + 1.75 cents/gal. Normalized to June RBOB + 4.24 cents/gal. BP purchased 25,000 barrels MTBE for delivery between May 6-10 from ATMI. An Europe-based source stated that the arbitrage was almost open. The European MTBE prices fell by $3/mt today, marking a decrease of $129.75/mt since a downtrend started on April 16 due to weaker gasoline values. The European gasoline-naphtha front month spread shrank by $2/mt to $232.50/mt in one day, but sources indicated that blending margins were still favorable.
